MJ The Art Traveller is made up of an Artist persona who travels alone to different cities and different places across the world. He is a reflective and sceptical person trying to understand how reality and freedom work together, by not feeling afraid of other people. The Artist began his first journey when he travelled to Edinburgh and Glasgow back in March 2015. Having been nineteen at the time, travelling had a positive impact on his perception on freedom. As a result, his persona is about expressing identity in a creative and informative way. Having autism has an impact on anxiety levels and can create fear of not being accepted in modern society. As an individual, travelling with a sketchbook is a psychological coping mechanism, especially when it comes to escaping from the stress and chaos. Using drawing and video help understand repetition, chaos and randomness. Freedom gives the artist ability to travel independently to see new places, draw, make films and record autobiographical stories. Since his childhood, Pablo Picasso has always stayed an inspiration for the Art Traveller, quite notably for his cubism movement. The style of Art Persona is usually representational especially in documentation of architectural and cultural surroundings. The artist has also explored Richard Long’s portrayal of travelling into performance and text art (‘walking the Line’).
